Sunshine Coach Program
Transportation plays a vital role in serving the children in our communities, yet agencies consistently lack funding for this necessity. Variety - The Children's Charity Sunshine Coach program helps to fill this great need - to provide transportation to children - among agencies. Variety provides grants to children's organizations for mini-vans, 15-passenger vans and for larger buses - all to transport children.
Throughout Iowa and neighboring communities, nearly 300 Sunshine Coaches, many equipped with special lifts to accommodate kids in wheelchairs, transport children to hospitals where they receive necessary medical attention, to counseling where they receive specialized treatment, and to clubs and shelters where they receive positive programming. The Sunshine Coaches also give kids the opportunity to enjoy field trips and recreational outings.
Variety At Work
BIKES FOR KIDS
Variety works with schools and agencies to locate area children to receive a bike and helmet courtesy of individual sponsors. Local Police Departments conduct bicycle safety instruction.
Cost: $90 to sponsor a bike and helmet; Free to attend presentation.
ZOO DAY
Variety invites Des Moines area children to experience a day at the Blank Park Zoo.
Cost: Free
MOVIE DAY
Variety invites children from agencies to a movie.
